We all knew that Ms. Viola was special. But we didn’t realize just how unique she really is. Count ‘em….one, two, three, four, five, six toes! Ok, no chicken is supposed to have six toes, but Ms. Vi does. And no, this doesn’t conform to the “Standard of Perfection,” but so what! Her extra fluffy butt, good color and fine overall condition scored Ms. Vi a second place ribbon at the First Annual Coastal Cluckers Chicken Show.

The event was a big success, bringing in almost 80 chicken fanciers, or would-be chicken fanciers. This included a wide mix of ages and levels of chicken awareness. We had a world class judge, Beau, a poultry science major at OSU. This guy really knows his way around a chicken. He patiently judged each chicken for the crowd, providing a running commentary on each bird as he went.buff butt.jpg

Here’s how the other Lucky Cluckers did:

Talla: Honorable Mention

Bisquit: Honorable Mention

Matilda: Second Place clean-legged bantam

Buff: Second in Show and winner of a bright red trophy

Penny: First Place clean-legged bantam

Jimmy: Best in Show! and a big, gold-leafed trophy

The Judging was followed a showmanship demo by Sara Fox and a game of Chicken Jeopardy! A whole bunch of people got in on the game and all increased their level of general chicken knowledge and appreciation. And that is what the event was all about!  Thanks to Lincoln County 4-H, Muddy Paw Farm, Lucky Cluck Farms and Chicks for Hens for sponsoring the event.the cluckers 028.jpgthe cluckers 031.jpg
